Pokemon GO

When Christmas rolls in next week, it could be accompanied by a special event in Pokemon GO. Google Play in Taiwan teases what’s to come.

First, Niantic looks to be planning special sale boxes that include incubator and a new “starpiece” item. Also mentioned is more Pokemon from the Hoenn region, and the appearance of Delibird. Players should be able to encounter wearing Pikachu a Santa hat as well.

We expect that Niantic will be sharing official news about its new holiday event for Pokemon GO very soon.

Niantic is boosting Pokemon GO with some new functionality. If you have a device that’s running iOS 11 on iPhone 6s or newer, you’ll be able to experience AR+.

AR+ allows for all sorts of improvements and features. For example, Pokemon are now fixed to a point in space, and they’ll run away if they become aware of the Trainers getting too close.

Here’s the full lowdown on AR+ in Pokemon GO from Niantic:

A new Legendary Pokemon can now be caught in Pokemon GO. Groudon has started to appear in Raid Battles around the world.

Keep in mind that this is a limited time event. Groudon will be appearing until 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on January 15, and will then be taken offline.

Niantic is still continuing its plans to update Pokemon GO. 50 new Pokemon are due out soon, and a dynamic weather system is being implemented.

Some much-requested features are still missing in action, however. Since the beginning of Pokemon GO, fans have wanted to trade, but that isn’t currently possible. Player versus player battles also aren’t supported.

The new Pokemon GO content announced by Niantic earlier this week is now live. This includes 50 new Pokemon and the dynamic weather system.

In other news, we have updated patch notes for version 1.55.1 / 0.85.2. Niantic has increased the maximum Pokemon Storage to 1,500 and more.

Below are the patch notes:

Pokemon GO’s latest update has arrived. On iOS, the mobile game is now at version 1.55.1. The Android version has been bumped up to version 0.85.2.

The official patch notes only make mention of bug fixes. In reality though, it’s likely paving the way for the new Pokemon and dynamic weather system announced a couple of days ago.

Niantic has shared the latest news about Pokemon GO. Confirmation has come in that new Pokemon are on the way – 50 in total – and a dynamic weather system is being implemented.

Niantic says that Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, and other Pokemon from Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire will begin appearing later this week. More will be appearing “over the next several weeks”.

Pokemon GO’s roster of Pokemon is likely expanding very soon. An ad for a new round of Gen 3 Pokemon has been spotted, signaling that Niantic will have more to add in the near future.

The ad, pictured above, comes from the Apple Watch App Store. While the text is the same as the Halloween event, the Pokemon are not. Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip from Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire should be on the way soon, along with other potential Pokemon.

In the past, Pokemon GO’s in-game map has been powered by Google. But in recent days, the game has been updated, and has switched to OpenStreetMap. Some players have noticed that the map in Pokemon GO looks different as a result.

The change hasn’t applied in every single region just yet. It appears to have been rolled out in the United States as well as a number of South American and Asian countries.

Pokemon GO recently wrapped up its Global Catch Challenge. It was quite successful, as players collectively caught over 3 billion Pokemon.

To celebrate, Niantic has prepared a new reward for fans. Ho-Oh is now showing up in Raid Battles at Gyms around the world. The Pokemon will be present until December 12.
