pre-order

Update: And she’s gone – lasted much longer than Walmart’s last round of pre-orders at least!

Walmart took pre-orders for the Super NES Classic Edition for an extremely brief period this week. Now, however, it’s available once again. You can pre-order it here.

What we will say is that Walmart seems to have more pre-orders this time. The last round lasted under a minute, so this is a somewhat good sign.

Amazon appears to have hit a snag with pre-orders placed for the Super NES Classic Edition. In an email sent to customers, the retailer notes that it “recently learned that we may miss your delivery promise”. Units will still be sent out though, and the retailer is “working hard to ensure you get this item as soon as it is in stock.”

In other news, we’re hearing that Amazon is reducing orders for multiple Super NES Classic units reduced to one. Since no limit was placed originally, some customers placed orders for many systems – even dozens. This should hopefully give consumers another shot at snagging a Super NES Classic Edition at Amazon.

Best Buy is preparing a special pre-order bonus for Super Mario Odyssey. If you reserve the game, you’ll receive a free collectible coin when the game launches. My Best Buy members will be eligible for $10 in rewards as well.

All of this information is provided on a flyer handed out to those attending the Nintendo World Championships 2017 qualifiers at Best Buy in the Bronx Terminal Market. Pre-orders can be placed either online or in-store. Also, in order to receive the pin, it seems that reservations will need to be done between August 18 and September 23.

The other tricky thing here is that we don’t have an actual image of the pin yet… nor is this information appearing on Best Buy’s site for the time being. We’ll keep an eye on the page to see if it pops up soon.

Toys “R” Us was listed as one of the retailers that would be taking pre-orders for the Super NES Classic Edition on Nintendo’s website. However, that appears to be incorrect.

When asked about pre-orders by one consumer, the official Toys “R” Us Twitter account responded with a brief note that there are no plans for pre-orders. It will only be sold in-stores at launch.

The tweet reads:

The Super NES Classic Edition website has updated with some pre-order news for North America. In total, six retailers will be accepting reservations. These include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Toys “R” Us, and Walmart.

Both Best Buy and Amazon took pre-orders earlier today… at some ridiculous times, especially for those on the East Coast like myself. We did not report on those, and I’m terribly sorry for that. Nick was having some issues on his end, and Matt isn’t really familiar with the pre-order situation as our European correspondent – not to mention the tons of Gamescom news that dropped earlier today keeping him busy. We were also expecting Nintendo to provide specifics about the pre-order situation, but that didn’t happen, and as much as I’d like to be, I can’t be watching over things the full 24 hours each day – or I’d probably die.

With all of that said, we’ll be keeping track of pre-orders as best we can. GameStop pre-orders may actually begin later today. Employees are being told to expect a “special announcement that will require immediate attention”, so stay tuned.
