Is Shovel Knight getting its own amiibo? A tweet from UK retailer GAME claims that a figure based on Yacht Club Games’ character will actually be happening.

GAME Brighton posted the following on Twitter today:

Despite GAME’s tweet, there hasn’t been an actual announcement about a Shovel Knight amiibo. Things are looking very interesting though!

Yacht Club Games published a new trailer for Shovel Knight’s free DLC expansion, Plague of Shadows. You can view it below.

In other news, Yacht Club Games confirmed that Plague of Shadows wrapped up development earlier this week. Fans can expect a release date “very, very soon”.

“We’re happy to share that, as of August 5th, Plague of Shadows has completed development! Now the game is in the “submission phase” where we coordinate with everyone to make sure it arrives on your system without a hitch. This can be a mystifying step, since we need to coordinate with a lot of teams beyond just our own. Once we hear word back, we’ll be able to share a true final release date. But expect it very, very soon! In the meantime, get ready for updates in the near future detailing the new campaign!”

Check out this interview with Sean Velasco and Nick Wozniak from Yacht Club Games as they talk about the upcoming Plague of Shadows DLC for Shovel Knight:

One last bit of Shovel Knight news for the day. Yacht Club Games has confirmed that, since launch, the game has sold more than 700,000 copies. We don’t have a specific breakdown per platform, but Wii U and 3DS should have contributed quite a bit to that amount!

Shovel Knight’s retail version wasn’t the only important news shared about the game today. In a blog post, Yacht Club Games touched on the upcoming Plague of Shadows content, Battle Mode, and a tease of Nintendo exclusive content.

Plague of Shadows will arrive before the boxed version in October, according to Yacht Club Games. The team is “in the home stretch and are polishing every detail, pixel, and potion right now.” New screenshots are in the gallery below.

In terms of what’s happening with Battle Mode, Yacht Club Games said:

Even in the chaos of all this new stuff, we are still plugging away on new features. New single player adventures are always fun, but it will soon be time to shake it up in Battle Mode! Lots of playable characters, stages, battle types, options, and more are coming! Here’s a taste:

We hope everyone is looking forward to the wild battles!

Last but not least, Yacht Club Games shared an interesting tease regarding Nintendo exclusive content:

Wow…was that too much information? Stay tuned this coming month because we have even more crazy cool news to reveal. For instance, a final Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows release date and trailer! Also… we’ve heard the cries of bringing more exclusive content to Nintendo platforms. It might not be quite what you expect… but keep an eye out for another MEGATON announcement soon!

God of War’s Kratos was in the PlayStation versions of Shovel Knight, while Battletoads are in the Xbox One edition. What might Yacht Club Games be cooking up for Wii U and 3DS?!

Following a Best Buy leak from April, Yacht Club Games has confirmed that Shovel Knight is making its way to retail. The physical versions are planned for both Wii U and 3DS.

In North America, Shovel Knight’s physical release is planned for October 13. Europe will be receiving it on October 16. Pricing is set at $19.99.

Here’s an overview of what’s included:

The physical version of Shovel Knight contains everything we’ve released so far. First, there is the original Shovel Knight campaign with all the content you know and love! Also included is Shovel Knight’s first content update: Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Finally, there’s a full-featured Challenge mode with more than 50 crazy challenge levels to explore!

Of course, like the digital version, every boxed version will also receive FREE future updates as they become available:

Specter Knight’s Campaign – A full campaign starring the shadowy scythe spinner!
King Knight’s Campaign – A crazy campaign with the gilded goob himself!
Battle Mode – Duel with up to 4 players as your favorite heroic or villainous knight! (Wii U/PS4/XB1/PC exclusive)

Body Swap Mode – Did you ever wish Shovel Knight was a lady, or Shield Knight was a dude? Well, now you’ll be able to change them all around, along with the rest of the cast!

Oh, and one more thing: every boxed copy of Shovel Knight will include a lavish instruction booklet similar to the Kickstarter reward. No 2-page inserts here! You deserve a full manual, to hold in your hot little shaking hands and pore over as you wait to get home!

Yacht Club Games is publishing the retail version of Shovel Knight. The studio is partnering with distributor U&I Entertainment, who will ship the game to stores.

In the PlayStation versions of Shovel Knight, Yacht Club included a special stage featuring Sony’s Kratos character. The same was done for the Xbox One version, which has a Battletoads boss level. There’s nothing similar to speak of at present for Shovel Knight on Wii U or 3DS, but that doesn’t mean Yacht Club Games isn’t interested in the possibilities. Far from it actually!

In an interview with GamingBoulevard, Yacht Club Games’ David D’Angelo spoke about the character he’d like to see in the Nintendo versions of Shovel Knight if the opportunity presented itself:

Who knows?! It’d be amazing to work with a Nintendo IP. They have so many great ones to choose from. I usually go for the weirdos, so Tingle would be right up my alley.

Elsewhere in the interview, D’Angelo spoke about his interest in seeing Shovel Knight in Smash Bros.:

Absolutely, Shovel Knight in smash would be incredible! We play Smash Bros. pretty much every day, and to see our character as part of the roster would be an amazing honor! Lots of our fans have come up with really great descriptions for attacks and final smashes, I’d suggest checking them out!

On its official website, Yacht Club Games shared an update on the new Plague of Shadows content and Challenge Mode for Shovel Knight. Both items will debut in Q2 of this year.

Here’s the latest:

Plague of Shadows

Plague of Shadows, the first big free update, continues to bubble and brew– taking more of its final form each passing day! Lately we’ve been tackling alchemy items, upgrades, and overarching systems! We were elated (and breathed a collective sigh of relief) to hear everyone’s feedback on Plague Knight’s core mobility during PAX East; now we’re now moving full steam ahead on all the overarching elements that go into the most plague-ular adventure.

Challenge Mode

Are you more into digging than distillation? Already have your Feats book long filled out? Well, then sharpen your skills for Challenge Mode! Prove your mettle by taking on new scenarios and returning foes alike. Use every bit of Shovel Knight knowledge you have to take on speed run challenges, boss rematches, and other rule-benders… and expect some tricky puzzles too! Challenge Mode will debut alongside the Plague of Shadows Update. As new Updates take form…so too will new challenges!

ChallengeMode

Yacht Club also announced that Shovel Knight is making its way to Japan. More details will be announced in the future, but it’s been confirmed that a new Japanese language option will be added to all versions of the game.

Update: Here’s what Yacht Club is saying about the situation:

I’m not really too sure what to make of that. Best Buy isn’t one to make mistakes, and we even have the boxart, so… I still think this is going to happen. We’ll see. If we hear anything either way, it’ll be right here on the site.

New product listings on Best Buy’s website reveals that Shovel Knight is seeing a physical release at retail.

Entries for 3DS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions have been spotted. At the moment, it’s unclear if the Wii U version will be receiving the same treatment.

Based on Best Buy’s listings, Shovel Knight’s physical version will cost $29.99. It’s tentatively slated for September 15.
