Star Fox

During a live stream this week, Dylan Cuthbert – who worked on the original Star Fox along with a couple of other series entries – hosted a stream of Star Fox Zero. GameXplain picked up on it and has now posted a video recapping some interesting nuggets that were shared. He spoke about the fan theory of Team Star Fox’s legs being amputated, being married to Shigeru Miyamoto, and more.

View the video below. You can watch the original stream in full here.

If you stop by Nintendo NY, you’ll come across some lovely Star Fox representation. The E3 puppets are on display – including the one of Shigeru Miyamoto – and there’s also various goodies on display and a neat Star Fox Zero demo booth.

Here’s a look at the various promotional efforts:

More:

First 4 Figures has announced its first Star Fox statue. Later this year, the company will come out with one based on the Arwing.

The statue is suspended upon a base featuring the Team Star Fox insignias. Additionally, it’s painted completely by hand and cast in high quality polystone. Measurements come in at 12″ inches tall by 12″ deep by 18″ wide.

There are two versions of the statue available – standard and exclusive. The exclusive version has purple LED lighting fitted in the craft’s main engines. Both come in deluxe full-color packaging, moulded foam interiors, hand-numbered base, and a card of authenticity.

Pricing is set at $279.99 for the standard version. The exclusive version will set you back $299.99. A release is planned for Q4 2016.

Towards the beginning of last month, we heard about a new “Star Fox Limited Edition Fox McCloud Stone Statue” sold by GameStop. Originally, it was supposed to be out on February 9. That date has passed, and statues haven’t been shipped.

Based on GameStop’s listing, the Fox McCloud figure should be available on February 22 – next Monday. If we hear about any further delays, we’ll be sure to let you know.

The new Ratchet & Clank game for PlayStation 4 features a noticeable reference to Star Fox. In the video below, you can hear one of the characters calling out to the main player to “do a barrel roll”. Of course, that’s one of the most recognizable lines in Star Fox’s history!

The folks over at Unseen64 once again did what they do best and unearthed footage and information from the video game history books. This time, they’ve covered NesGlider, a game that would eventually end up being the SNES classic Star Fox.

NesGlider was developed by Argonaut Games for the NES (and eventually the SNES) in order to show Nintendo what 3D games would look like on their hardware. While the game looked impressive for its time, it suffered from being a bit slow and clunky despite pushing the SNES to its limits. Check out some footage from the game below:

Nonetheless, Nintendo was impressed and decided to invest into a hardware upgrade that would allow the SNES to seamlessly handle 3D graphics. Working together with Argonaut, they developed the Super FX chip, which finally made 3D games possible on the Super Nintendo. Argonaut and Nintendo then worked together on the NesGlider prototype, and in a collaborative effort, the game evolved into what we know as Star Fox.
