The Pinball Arcade

Update (5/21): In addition to North America, The Pinball Arcade can also now be downloaded from the European eShop.

Original (5/11): The Pinball Arcade originally appeared on the Switch eShop last month. The thing is, it was only up for an incredibly short period. FarSight Studios had it removed due to a licensing issue.

A month later, The Pinball Arcade is back up on the eShop – presumably for good. It’s free to download, with a bunch of table packs that can be purchased separately.

After it was listed one day prior to release, The Pinball Arcade did end up on the Switch eShop. However, the game was quickly pulled.

Developer FarSight Studios says that the removal was due to a licensing issue. Once that’s been taken care of, The Pinball Arcade will be added back to the eShop. We’ll be sure to let you know when that happens.

FarSight Studios recently confirmed that The Pinball Arcade would be heading to Switch. Thanks to a listing on the eShop, we appear to know when. The North American store lists a release date of April 6, which would actually be tomorrow.

The Pinball Arcade will be free to download, with players purchasing tables. Over 90 pinball tables are offered, including Ghostbusters Premium, The Addams Family, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Doctor Who, Twilight Zone, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Medieval Madness.

After an incredibly long wait, Pinball Arcade is finally coming to the North American Wii U eShop this week. You’ll be able to download it for free (spend money on tables) starting on Thursday.

The official game page on Nintendo’s website says that regular updates are planned, which will add the likes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Twilight Zone, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Monster Bash, Medieval Madness, Funhouse, Attack from Mars, Circus Voltaire, and Big Shot. Pinball Arcade will also feature online tournaments and more modes “to challenge yourself and compete against your friends.”

It’s been an extremely long wait for The Pinball Arcade on Wii U. We first heard about an eShop version way back in 2012, but there have been some major setbacks along the way. Things finally appear to be wrapping up though, as FarSight Studios shared a new release window on its Facebook page. The Pinball Arcade will finally be available on Wii U in early 2016 if all goes as planned.

Just a few days ago, we heard about FarSight Studios’ plan to bring The Pinball Arcade to New 3DS. But there is another Nintendo version that has long been in development – that is, the Wii U edition.

Some recent comments made by The Pinball Arcade lead designer Bobby King suggested that the Wii U version could still be on the way… but perhaps not. Check out this statement from The Pinball Arcade support team:

Right now we have no concrete plans to bring our game to the Wii U. It’s still in the cards but no definite groundwork has yet been laid out.

That doesn’t sound too encouraging, sadly!
