Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 review

System: Switch
Release date: October 24, 2023
Developer: Konami
Publisher: Konami

Even though I’m a certified Old-Head that writes about games, it’s difficult for me to properly encapsulate the cultural importance that Metal Gear games once exuded both pre and post release. The hype surrounding anything series creator Hideo Kojima touched was intense and all-consuming. Rest assured that if there was ever a month in which a new Metal Gear game was being released, just about nothing else mattered. The franchise has always been rightly held up as an example of unbridled creativity and auteur sensibility within the games industry – following the release of Metal Gear Solid V in 2015 however, Kojima left Konami under less than ideal circumstances. Rumors swirled regarding creative disputes and budgetary constraints – and following a poorly received Kojima-less spinoff in 2018, Metal Gear was put to bed.

Smash Bros. future Sakurai

Masahiro Sakurai posted another video on his YouTube channel today, which delves into the making of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and once again includes a brief comment about the series’ future. A good amount here was known previously, but it’s worth a watch in any case.

Sakurai started out by talking about the concept of bringing back all fighters and general development such as how the team didn’t need to start over completely since Bandai Namco was brought back and there’s “some similar architecture” between Switch and Wii U. The team was able to move on right from Bayonetta as DLC for Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS right into Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sakurai came up with a lengthy proposal regarding new feature and adjustments, which even included the possibility of VR support before Nintendo Labo was announced.

Retro Game Challenge originally came to the DS in 2007, and XSEED later brought it to North America in 2009. The series also saw Retro Game Challenge 2 launch in 2009, but only in Japan. Retro Game Challenge 3 later released in 2014 for 3DS as another Japan-exclusive.
