Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope preview

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle was one the plucky plumber’s most unexpected and off-the-wall adventures in a long time when it released in 2017; it quickly became one of my favorite games on the Switch thanks to its simple but satisfying tactics and its delightfully quirky vibes. I was excited to have the opportunity to play its upcoming sequel, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, for nearly four hours at a recent Ubisoft preview event, where I experienced large chunks of the game’s combat, exploration, and story across a handful of different in-game planets. So far, what I’ve played of Sparks of Hope has me feeling confident that the game will be a substantial evolution of everything that made Kingdom Battle so special, and it seems poised to be Mario’s most memorable adventure in quite a while.

Five years after the launch of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Ubisoft is returning with another mashup exclusive on Switch with Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and with the game due out in a matter of months, we’re starting up a pre-order guide that will include any retailer bonuses. The title now takes Mario and the rest of the gang to space to put an end to Cursa, a mysterious and malevolent entity who seeks out energy to further its nefarious plans and is looking to consume all the energy of the Sparks, creatures formed by the fusion of Lumas and Rabbids.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope retains the tactics gameplay of the original, but now features real-time action in battle. The game is also promising a more open-ended adventure. New characters will be playable, including Bowser, Rabbid Rosalina, and the mysterious Rabbid known as Edge.

Nintendo have dropped a new gameplay trailer for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, giving us a better look at the exploration mechanics and the game’s world.

Ubisoft Forward September 2022 live stream

A new Ubisoft Forward presentation is about to begin for September 2022, and we have the live stream ready to go. The event starts at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM in the UK / 9 PM in Europe.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is confirmed to be making an appearance. Brawlhalla is also showing up during the pre-show, which will be happening about a half hour prior to the main event.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle director Davide Soliani has spoken about the pressure faced while making the game, and actually thought that people would end up hating it. He even believed it’d be the last game he’d work on.

To be fair, when the title leaked before its official reveal, many had doubts that a crossover between the Mario and Rabbids franchises would work. Soliani told GamesIndustry that he initially saw “the worst messages” on forums, but the consensus changed once the official announcement was made.

Ubisoft has just announced that the original Mario + Rabbids game, Kingdom Battle, has been played by over 10 million people. This news comes in celebration of the game’s fifth anniversary, only a few months before the launch of its sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

Additionally, Ubisoft have also shared an interview with the game’s Creative Director Davide Soliani, Lead Producer Xavier Manzanares, and Associate Producer Cristina Nava which covers the transition they went through in beginning work on Mario +Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
