Yusuke Hashimoto

Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto has once again expressed interest in returning to the series for another game. That news comes from the latest issue of GamesMaster, which features a brief interview with Hashimoto.

In one question, GamesMaster asks about game sequels he’d like to work on. Hashimoto pointed to Bayonetta and how he’d like to create Bayonetta 3 – or even a spin-off.

Hashimoto said:

A sequel to a Platinum title… I’d have to say Bayonetta 3. I have all kinds of ideas in my head for how to expand the world of Bayonetta in even more sequels, or maybe a spin-off!

This isn’t the first time Hashimoto has talked about making another Bayonetta-related title. Last June, before Bayonetta 2 even hit store shelves, he spoke about a desire to continue “nurturing” the IP. We’ve also heard from Hideki Kamiya (the director of Bayonetta 1) about wanting to make a spin-off for 3DS featuring Jeanne.

Bayonetta 2 is finally out worldwide. The game launched a few weeks ago in Japan, but only came out in North America and Europe today.

Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto celebrated the title’s arrival in other territories with a message on PlatinumGames’ blog. You can find it in full below.

Hi everyone, this is Bayonetta 2’s director, Yusuke Hashimoto.

It’s been five long years… finally Bayonetta 2 is finally out in North America and Europe! I guess some of you might be playing it right now!

I’ve been overjoyed to receive so many messages from all of you on my twitter (PG_y_hashimoto). Thanks so much. During production, those messages helped me out a lot, and now, I’m just thinking… I can’t believe it’s finally on sale. This will be the first title I’ve worked on that will hit the stores in five years.

In this week’s issue of Famitsu, Bayonetta 2 was featured once again. The magazine provided one more update about the game ahead of the Japanese release (which took place a few hours ago in Japan).

You’ll find a lengthy summary of Famitsu’s report below:

A new Bayonetta 2 interview has come online over at CVG. The site spoke with director Yusuke Hashimoto, who talked about the decision to make a sequel, how Nintendo provided input, interest in continuing the series, and quite a bit more.

You can find CVG’s interview in full here. For notable excerpts, head past the break.

This information comes from director Yusuke Hashimoto and executive producer Atsushi Inaba…

– Inaba and Hashimoto say they can’t reveal whether they had planned to develop a port of the original game when they first signed the sequel with Nintendo, or later as a reaction to negative comments online
– Platinum wanted to do it and suggested it to Nintendo
– They also hint that Bayonetta 2 may include certain Nintendo references as well

Bayonetta 2

– Kamiya has been overseeing Bayonetta 2
– Kamiya helped create the story and monitored the world in a supervisory role
– Work is done on Bayonetta 2
– Just working on bug fixes
– Game is coming out 5 years after the original
– Development only lasted 3 years
– Bayonetta 2 went through an experimental phase for its first two years
– In the third year production “spiked exponentially”
