Townscaper never received an actual release date on Switch, but it turns out that it has just now launched. Publisher Raw Fury and developer Oskar Stålberg did at least follow through on the original goal to have it out by the end of the month. The news and surprise release came as part of Gamescom 2021 today.

Townscaper originally appeared on Steam in June 2020, though many fans have been waiting to play the game on Switch. It’s a relaxing experience all about building, with Stålberg stating that there’s “no real gameplay” and it’s “more of a toy than a game.”

Townscaper lets players choose colors from the palette, place colored blocks of house on a grid. They can then “watch Townscaper’s underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration.”

Here’s a new trailer for the game that shows what the whole thing has to offer:

Townscaper can be purchased digitally for Switch as an eShop download. It’ll set you back just $5.99. English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese Korean, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese language options are supported. It’s also a rather small download at just 67MB.
