Bellevue, WA\u2014June 11, 2019\u2014More details were revealed today about Max Raid Battles and the Wild Area, new features in the highly anticipated games, Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Pok\u00e9mon Shield. A new Gym Leader and Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus compatibility with the games were also announced. The newest additions to the main series of the Pok\u00e9mon role-playing video game franchise, Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Pok\u00e9mon Shield will be launching November 15, 2019, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch system. <\/p>\n

Pok\u00e9mon in the Wild Area<\/p>\n

The Wild Area, a vast expanse of land in the Galar region, is home to a wide variety of Pok\u00e9mon. When exploring the Wild Area, Trainers will encounter powerful wild Pok\u00e9mon that are constantly on guard. The types of Pok\u00e9mon that appear, as well as battlefield conditions, can be affected by the weather in the Wild Area. For example, a Trainer who enters a battle during a thunderstorm will find the power of their Water- and Electric-type moves increased. <\/p>\n

Max Raid Battles<\/p>\n

Max Raid Battles occur in Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Pok\u00e9mon Shield when four players join forces to take on a wild Dynamax Pok\u00e9mon in the Wild Area. Trainers can find other players who want to participate in a Max Raid Battle through a notification on their Y-Comm, a new feature in Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Pok\u00e9mon Shield. On the Y-Comm screen, players can also trade Pok\u00e9mon and have Link Battles via the internet or local communication.<\/p>\n

When Pok\u00e9mon Dynamax\u2014a phenomenon unique to the Galar region\u2014they grow to gigantic proportions and gain tremendous power. Trainers can encounter different species of Dynamax Pok\u00e9mon with varying strengths when they investigate Pok\u00e9mon Dens located throughout the Wild Area. In battle, these powerful wild Dynamax Pok\u00e9mon might use multiple moves in one turn, neutralize the challenging Pok\u00e9mon\u2019s Abilities, or even remove all stat changes that have been put in place. Wild Dynamax Pok\u00e9mon can also create mysterious barriers that prevent almost all damage. To properly damage a Pok\u00e9mon behind one of these barriers, Trainers will need to break it down by repeatedly attacking it. When a player\u2019s Pok\u00e9mon is knocked out in a Max Raid Battle, they can still assist other Trainers by cheering them on. If a Trainer emerges victorious from a Max Raid Battle, not only will all participating Trainers have an opportunity to catch the defeated Dynamax Pok\u00e9mon, they can also be rewarded with many useful items. <\/p>\n

Nessa, a Water-type Gym Leader <\/p>\n

Pok\u00e9mon Gyms are found in stadiums throughout the Galar region and attract Trainers that are experts in specific types of Pok\u00e9mon. To become Champion, players will need to defeat the top Trainers in Pok\u00e9mon Gyms, also known as Gym Leaders. In Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Pok\u00e9mon Shield, Trainers will encounter Nessa, a Gym Leader who is an expert on Water-type Pok\u00e9mon. Her calm and collected attitude hides a competitive spirit and indomitable will that become apparent when she overwhelms opponents with powerful Water-type moves. <\/p>\n

Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus Compatibility <\/p>\n

When a Trainer syncs their Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus with Pok\u00e9mon Sword or Pok\u00e9mon Shield, they will be able to transfer their favorite Pok\u00e9mon to the Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus and take them for a stroll in the real world. The Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus will light up and vibrate, and the Pok\u00e9mon\u2019s cry can even be heard occasionally. A newly purchased Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus will contain the Mythical Pok\u00e9mon Mew. If players link a new Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus to Pok\u00e9mon Sword or Pok\u00e9mon Shield, they will be able to receive this Mew in their linked game. Unlike in Pok\u00e9mon: Let\u2019s Go, Pikachu! and Pok\u00e9mon: Let\u2019s Go, Eevee!, the Pok\u00e9 Ball Plus cannot be used as a controller in Pok\u00e9mon Sword or Pok\u00e9mon Shield. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n \t\t\n\t\t\t\t
