New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe lands on Switch this Friday. New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U are largely the same as they originally were on Wii U, but there are a few small technical improvements that you may not be aware of.

It’s not often something discussed, but New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is a very small download. The file size is just 2.5GB. In comparison, New Super Mario Bros. U + Luigi U is 13GB on Wii U.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe increases the resolution from 720p to 1080p when docked. UI and text get the same increase.

The Switch version also features improved anisotropic filtering quality. What this means is that any surface that sits at an angle relative to the camera simply looks clearer. Unfortunately, on Wii U it was often blurred. Some geometry has also changed – notably Peach has an altered face and clothing on Switch. Finally, there are higher resolution shadows underneath every character.
