2.5D action platformer Datenshi announced for Switch

RAION Games has announced Datenshi, a new 2.5D action platformer. It will launch for Switch later in 2021.

Here’s an overview of the game, along with a trailer:

Immerse yourself in the mix of cyberpunk and traditional Japanese Universum. Datenshi is a 2.5D platform action game that allows player to dive into a cyberpunk world filled with rich Japanese lore of shinobi culture. As a warrior named Shoku, your goal is to save your kidnapped friend, while overcoming multiple obstacles that will fall into your path.

Yin and Yang – the duality of men – Datenshi Seal

Wake a primal demon inside of you – Datenshi. Fight with totalitarian corporation in the name of friendship and family. The reward for unlocking each element is a story in a form of comic book.

Datenshi Seal says:

The Warrior is Fire – He gives warmth to those he loves, and ashes to his enemies.

The Warrior is Earth – He brings a harvest to the family and graves of his enemies.

The Warrior is Water – He gives life to those he loves by draining the life of another.

The Warrior is the Wind – Make a wind of change and blow away danger.

The Earth Element – game world

In a world ruined by big corporation wars, where countries were nothing but puppets, one man has proclaimed himself as a ruler – the almighty Tech-Ceasar. Ten years has passed since his side – The Hikari Corp, has dominated above everyone else, devastating their enemies and setting up a new world order. The Militia Corp rules the streets, crushing even the slightest hints of opposition for the leading party. Propaganda is being spread through all the media. Most advanced technology can be hardly distinguished from magic. These are the darkest times for common citizens.

The Fire Element – combat system

The elements make up the matter we see all around us and as we are matter too, these elements also exist in our bodies. Chakras are energy centres and each major chakra has a corresponding element. Path of the warrior is long and hard and only by facing our fears and battling our own weaknesses will we be able to unlock all chakras and combine them in a devastating force of all elements. From this world a fifth element was born – the technology. It degrades the remaining four elements and locks the door to enlightenment for warriors.

The Water Element – characters

Shoku – main protagonist. An orphan, training prohibited by Hikari Corp ancient ninjutsu art, under care of his master Fukoshu. In his master school the boy finds his new home and a new family, which he decides to never let go.

Matsu – Master Fukoshu’s daughter. With her moral compass always pointing north she is the definition of goodness. She’s in love with Asahi, who treats her as his own sister.

Asahi – A very gifted young boy, who wishes to enhance his fighting skills by all means, almost to the point of obsession. Unfortunately his urge to train is driven by vengeance which clouds the true meaning of his masters teachings – helping and defending others. 

Akuma –  a war vet with a high rank in Hikar Corp, answering directly to Tech-Caesar. His goal is to break the Datenshi seal and claim the mythical power in the name of Hikari Corp which will let them take control over the whole world.

The Element of Air – The Shirunoban Tribe

A mysterious tribe that for centuries has been the true protector of this continent residents, mastering the secret art of ninjutsu. The Shirunoban Tribe always put a great deal of effort into protecting their own secrets which ultimately led to their own destruction. During the great war they stood against Hikari Corp, after which they were annihilated and the memory of their achievements was lost. Now, the omnipresent propaganda shows them as monsters, demons and less than humans, threatening the order of the new world. Very few know that killing the last of the Shiru will break the Datenshi seal which will ultimately lead to destruction of the world. But some people just want to watch the world burn.
