Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster frame rate resolution

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is almost here, and Digital Foundry is giving us a closer look at the game from the technical side of things by examining the frame rate, resolution, and more. It appears to be a solid effort from Nightdive which will come with a slight hiccup for Switch at launch, but everything will be patched soon.

Here’s the roundup of tidbits:

– Made in the Kex Engine with original game’s source code
– New assets and improvements
– Artwork has received a complete revamp
– Cutscenes remade in high resolution
– Can toggle between enhanced hardware accelerated visuals and original low resolution graphics
– 1080p max resolution on Switch
– Graphics in Switch version are the same as other consoles
– Tick rate rounded off to 144 for the remaster which can cause jutter
– Performance dips on Switch, primarily during combat
– Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster targets 60 frames per second on the console
– If you use the original graphics, performance is stable
– Disabling anti-aliasing also boost performance on Switch a bit
– Nightdive already looked into the frame rate issue and will be patched soon
– Music note timing slightly offer in the remastered version
