Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 removes career mode for THPS4
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was announced this week to the delight of fans, but depending on your viewpoint, today brought what some may feel is a downgrade compared to the original release – at least in the case of one of the games.
It’s now been confirmed that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 won’t have a career mode for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. Activision says that each level in the game “will feature a list of challenges to complete in a 2-minute run.”
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 was notable for including a career mode for the first time, and it didn’t use the 2-minute run system the series was known for. As part of that, players could skate around and choose goals they wanted to pursue without any restrictions. It’s true that many challenges had timers, but players could also just skate around and explore while also collecting money.
With Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 being rumored and leaked before the announcement, fans were wondering what would happen with the career mode in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. Now we have the answer about that. The only thing that slightly softens the blow is that a free skate option will be included for levels in THPS4. However, players can’t complete level challenges in that mode. Some feel that the game isn’t getting the full remake treatment it deserves.
Thanks to Kotaku for the news. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 comes to Nintendo Switch on July 11, 2025 and we have all of the details here about the game, pre-orders for the collector’s edition, and more.
