Nintendo Switch 2 tariff 145 percent

Nikkei issued a report today indicating that Nintendo Switch 2 is set to face a 145 percent tariff hit with most production taking place in China.

There’s been a lot of discussion as of late over the console’s price and how much Nintendo would be impacted. It’s true that various tech products will be exempt – at least for now – from tariffs initiated by President Trump. However, that does not seem to apply to gaming consoles. Nikkei Asia says it has seen “an internal assessment memo by a major Apple and Nintendo supplier” which indicates that the 145 percent tariff affecting goods made in China is still in place.

The amount of Nintendo Switch 2 production happening outside of China has been up for debate. However, Nikkei Asia claims that most units are still coming from that region. There’s “a relatively small proportion made in Vietnam,” the outlet states.

Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025. As of now the console will cost $450, but some have feared that there could be a price increase given the tariff situation. Pre-orders in the United States and Canada were initially planned to begin last Wednesday, but Nintendo pushed things back to an unspecified date.
