Open world action adventure game Sands of Aura lined up for Nintendo Switch

indie.io, along with Chashu Entertainment, have announced Sands of Aura for Nintendo Switch. The game is scheduled to launch on February 26, 2026.

Sands of Aura is an open world action adventure game set in an apocalyptic world buried under endless sands, in which players join the hallowed ranks of the last defenders of mankind as the remnants of humanity face a devastating new threat. It first came out for PC in 2023, and the Nintendo Switch version comes with every improvement and update made since then, as well as tailored console improvements: a purpose-built targeting assist system, reworked island exploration interface, and tweaks to combat and economy to further refine the experience of fighting for humanity’s survival in a dying world.

The world of Talamhel is no stranger to calamity. Thousands of years ago, an ancient war unleashed untold devastation, covering its surface in endless sandseas. Only the mountaintops remain, islands of relative safety among the desolation, forever under siege not just from the elements, but undead hordes of those who once called this world their home.

The few remaining human strongholds are protected by the Order of the Remnant Knights – and as a new knight is inducted, a terrifying new threat looms large. As newly anointed defenders of humanity, it is up to the players to confront this threat and the undead hordes, crossing the endless sand on board their nimble grainwake.

But things are not as they seem: Secrets buried in the sand may reveal forgotten truths and a path to restoring a dead world to life may be one of them. Finding it requires players to master a challenging combat system featuring seven distinct fighting styles, combined with an extensive inventory and crafting system. Survival among the sands is a matter of both skill and equipment, combining dozens of armor sets and thousands of craftable weapons with magical augmentations.

Beyond combat, players are free to explore the world of Talamhel as they see fit. The open world offers opportunities and danger in equal measure, with plenty of side quests and optional challenges on the horizon. The adventure is anchored by the Starspire, a sanctuary and refuge that allows players to demonstrate their leadership abilities if they so wish, building a community, expanding their understanding of the story, and gaining unique perks and services in the process.
