Animal Crossing New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 island transfer

Nintendo has shared a key detail about Animal Crossing: New Horizons and plans for Switch 2, confirming that your island can transfer straight to the new console.

Those that have been playing on Switch 1 can already move their island with a couple of different methods. With the first one, you could save it to the cloud and redownload it, which came in handy if you lost or broke your system, but also involved contacting Nintendo. The other option was using the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island Transfer Tool.

For Nintendo Switch 2, things seem to be more straightforward when transferring your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island. Nintendo’s Takuhiro Dohta confirmed that as part of the overall console transfer process, it will leave Switch 1 and move over to the new platform.

Dohta told Polygon:

“So I should clarify that when you do the system transfer, everything like save data will remain on the Nintendo Switch and once it moves to the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. But the [Animal Crossing] island will be an actual move. So it will leave Nintendo Switch and move over to Nintendo Switch 2.”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons saw massive success on Nintendo Switch. The game launched just as the covid pandemic was beginning, and many players saw that as a chance to escape the situation for a bit and connect with others online. It is one of the most-successful Nintendo Switch titles having sold nearly 50 million copies – check out the latest million sellers list here.
