Switch sixth anniversary

It’s a special day for Nintendo, as the company launched Switch exactly six years ago. The system released on March 3, 2017.

Not even Nintendo could have predicted the success Switch has seen over the years. Over 120 million units have been sold, making it the second best-selling platform for the Big N (behind DS) and third best across the industry as a whole (the original PlayStation holds the record).

Switch made a splash with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which many believed to be a system seller. It’s only appropriate that we’re now coming full circle with the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, which arrives on May 12.

Switch is getting up there in terms of age as not many systems last six years. Still, we can at least look forward to a number of notable titles this year. 2023 has already seen Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. Aside from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we also know that Pikmin 4 is coming this year along with Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp (finally).
