Let’s Talk About Skyward Sword (Part 2): Atmospheric Perfection

Disclaimer: I will be putting spoilers past the breaks of these articles. These are for people who have played certain parts of the games to come discuss things with me, so don’t click if you haven’t played it yet!

So, it’s pretty safe to say that the majority of you are playing Skyward Sword right now, or if not, you will be playing it very shortly. Since I think we’re all really excited and just looking for a place to gush about how good (or bad, I guess) the game is, I figured I would start a collective playthrough/talk about the game that all of us can get in on and… uh… stuff. I’m not going to go for a really professional tone as I do with many articles; instead I’ll just be talking honestly and candidly, so forgive any weird statements. Here’s the deal:

The Low Down:
– No spoilers beyond the point of the game we’re discussing are allowed.
– Every time a new discussion is posted, it will deal with a new part of the game.
– If you are behind on the playthrough, let me know and we can slow it down to fit as many people’s needs as possible.
– This is sort of like a collective “review” of the game.

This week’s section is going to deal with all of the forest-y area. Hit the break to see exactly what that means.

Today’s “Let’s Talk About Skyward Sword” has us dealing with the section of the game that goes from when you first enter the Faron-area to right after the Skyview Temple, and boy, is it a fantastically visual area. I don’t think we’ve seen a place in the game as brilliantly colored and vibrant as this one yet! Though, given that “we” are only a short ways into it that doesn’t come as a surprise. So, let’s get right down to the best moments…

Best Moments

The Hidden Ground: First entering this area, hearing the music, and exploring what I’m assuming to be the Temple of Time from Ocarina of Time was absolutely astonishing. It was barren, beautiful, atmospheric, and totally fantastic in every imaginable. I honestly did not care that there wasn’t a single enemy to be found, because the game world sucked me in from the moment I set foot here.

Finding Kikwis: I love adorable little critters, and it’s safe to say that the Kikwis are some of the most adorable critters that the Zelda series has ever seen. The moment that truly pushed me over the edge with them was when I found their elder and he commended me for finding his expert hiding spot. Needless to say, he was simply laying face down in the middle of some grass, completely seeable from any angle.

Battling Ghirahim: I don’t normally like fighting a final boss before a final boss battle, but when they introduced Ghirahim into the arena alongside Link, I couldn’t help but get riled up. I slashed and smacked and swung, but ultimately my first time through I was killed by his sword. My second time? The satisfaction of tearing him a new one wasn’t long-lived, because he simply did the ol’ “Nice try little boy, but don’t try anything again or I’ll kill you” thing. Sigh…

How about all of you guys? What moments in the Faron Woods/Skyview Temple stood out for you?
