Miyamoto says Nintendo is “always working on Mario”
Mario fans have been interested in seeing what’s ahead for the series’ next core entry, but creator Shigeru Miyamoto isn’t willing to divulge what’s in store just yet.
Speaking with IGN, Miyamoto mentioned: “We’re always working on Mario, so when we get to a time where we can share information, we’ll certainly do so.”
If we’re looking at 3D Mario, the series made an appearance just a few months after the Switch’s launch in 2017. We also saw Bowser’s Fury with Super Mario 3D World in 2021, but that was more of a bite-sized experience. A few ports were bundled together in 2020 as well, which featured Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
With 2D Mario, it’s been a much longer wait in a way. Switch does have Super Mario Maker 2, but that’s a bit of a different experience. The console also received a port of New Super Mario Bros. U, which originally debuted on Wii U.
