As part of the various news emerging about Switch 2 today, Nintendo has confirmed some specs including that the console will include 4K support and the screen will support up to 120FPS.

The system being able to output in that resolution has been rumored and discussed for quite some time. However, a report was published a few days ago that development kits did not support it, causing some to believe that the feature would be missing. Nintendo’s announcement confirms that 4K will indeed be present within Nintendo Switch 2. HDR is also supported in TV mode.

The resolution can be displayed in docked mode. Just like the original Nintendo Switch, the upcoming system has a handheld mode, but it will not go up to 4K – it will stop at 1080p. Supporting 4K when playing in portable mode would be overkill and likely a waste of resources.
