Nintendo eShop in Japan to pull support for foreign credit cards, PayPal accounts
Nintendo made an announcement today stating that it will soon pull support for foreign credit cards and PayPal accounts. The change will go into effect on March 25, 2025.
The announcement doesn’t provide a ton of information, but Nintendo says it’s making the move in order to prevent fraud. Consumers are asked to use other payment methods such as credit cards issued in Japan in the future. Nintendo also apologized for any inconvenience this may cause.
One option that could be used moving forward is to purchase a Japanese voucher / code. However, that will not provide you with an exact amount as only certain denominations are available.
Note that no other changes to the Nintendo eShop are planned. As of now there also haven’t been any similar announcements regarding other regions.
Thanks to Nintendo for the news above.
