Rumor: Nintendo pushed back Switch 2 launch so that it could perfect games

According to a new report, Switch 2 could have launched earlier than it did, but Nintendo delayed things in order to focus on the quality of its games.

That claim comes from Bloomberg. The outlet, citing “people familiar with the matter”, says “Nintendo repeatedly pushed back plans for the Switch 2’s launch after its designers asked for more time to perfect the games that would accompany the new hardware”.

Bloomberg goes on to say that Nintendo “decided that aiming for perfection was more important” despite frustration from third-parties and fans.

In the end, it seems that strategy worked. Nintendo Switch 2 has been off to a fast start. For instance, most recently, we’ve heard that sales are outpacing the original Switch in the United States.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has come out with two games that have been successes. Between Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, the company already has come out with two major titles – and the latter will likely be in the conversation for Game of the Year. Other upcoming games include Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Splatoon Raiders plus Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
