Nintendo’s Bill Trinen has labeled Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza as “genre-defining” and “franchise-defining” games.

Both were just announced as two of the company’s initial titles for Switch 2. With Mario Kart World, Nintendo is introducing various new features and mechanics, including the ability to free roam. As for Donkey Kong Bananza, it’s the first 3D Donkey Kong game since the N64 days and features huge amounts of environmental destruction. Both games “really take advantage of the uniqueness of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.”

According to Trinen, as shared by GameSpot:

“Hopefully people are also seeing that with games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza, these are sort of genre-defining or franchise-defining moments for each of these games that really take advantage of the uniqueness of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. And for me, they really feel like, whether you are a Nintendo fan or a video game fan or even a video game developer who makes your own games, each of those games to me feels like something that you really can’t miss. These are must-play games for you to experience what Nintendo is doing next.”

Trinen also noted that Mario Kart World is a “philosophical” change for Mario Kart. This is partially due to the courses in the game are interconnected. On top of that, the most amount of racers are on the track at once, coming in at 24.

Nintendo has been teasing that it has more to share about Mario Kart World, which is happening as part of a Direct presentation next week. Find the details on that here.
