Nintendo Switch 2 getting Criware, Yesbis, and Enlighten middleware support
We have news about a few additional tech-related announcements for Nintendo Switch 2, with Criware, Yesbis, and Enlighten middleware support planned for the console.
For Criware, the announcement notes that along with “developing new games that utilize the new hardware,” it “will also support audio and visual expression on the new console, including porting previously released games and multiplatform support for playing the same title across platforms such as PCs and smartphones, and contribute to the creation of new ways to play.”
Games using Criware have been around since the GameCube era. In fact, it’s stated that over 800 titles for Nintendo consoles have been released using the middleware.
As for Silicon Studio, its post effects middleware Yesbis and global illumination middleware Enlighten will be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Yesbis compatibility is planned for its upcoming version this July that “will continue to support HDR output and will enable effective use of post-processing effects combined with upscaling technologies in game development for Nintendo Switch 2.”
For Enlighten, there’s a standalone SDK version that supports the new console plus a version integrated with Unreal Engine. “By adopting Enlighten, game developers targeting Nintendo Switch 2 can incorporate high-quality dynamic global illumination while minimizing processing costs,” Silicon Studio states.
For both Yebis and Enlighten, they assist with the game-making process “by fully leveraging the significantly enhanced graphics performance of Nintendo Switch 2, offering a major improvement over Nintendo Switch.”
Thanks to Criware and Silicon Studio for today’s news. Other support planned for Nintendo Switch includes Unity and GameMaker. Read about that here and here.
