Nintendo Switch 2 has an important HDR setting many don’t know about

HDR is new for Nintendo on Switch 2, but there’s an important setting tucked away in the system settings that you should know about.

If you’ve connected your console to a TV at all and it’s compatible with HDR, you’ve probably already gone through the setup process. But you’ll want to head on over to the settings and then visit the “Display” tab. After that, head all the way down and select the “Adjust HDR” option.

Nintendo Switch 2 will then come to a screen in which you’re supposed to adjust things so that the pattern on one side isn’t visible. Do that, and click “Next”.

This is where the important step comes into play. You’ll notice towards the bottom of the screen, there’s an “Adjust Brightness” setting, which can be tinkered with after pressing “Y”. Many people have overlooked this, understandably, since Nintendo doesn’t make it clear that it’s an important option and some may have assumed they’re just redoing the previous step. However, this seems to be a “paper white” setting of sorts that doesn’t override the previous peak brightness setting.

If you’re a handheld-only player, then this won’t make much of a difference. For those playing on an HDR-support television though, adjusting the setting can help make the image look less over-exposed or washed out. Choosing what’s best for your setup is important as that’s what will really make the HDR feature pop.
