Nintendo warns against using alcohol to clean Switch consoles and Joy-Con
Given how serious the coronavirus pandemic has become, people are cleaning and disinfecting the things they come into contact with more than ever before. Switch and its Joy-Con are no stranger to this as many people are using the system to keep themselves entertained. However, you may want to keep in mind that using alcohol could actually cause damage.
In a statement issued on its Japanese customer support Twitter page and translated by Kotaku, Nintendo wrote:
“Recently, customers have been asking whether they can disinfect their Nintendo Switch consoles and Joy-Cons with alcohol. We’re very sorry to say please avoid using alcohol as it may cause the plastic parts to fade in color or deform.”
“We also cannot recommend using non-alcoholic disinfecting sheets, as depending on the ingredients, they may damage the plastic parts.”
If you’re looking to clean your Joy-Con, Nintendo suggests using a soft dry cloth. That’s pretty much the only solid recommendation the company has currently.
