Nintendo will “consider” Switch 2 price adjustments depending on tariffs
Nintendo currently has a $450 price locked in for Switch 2, but depending on what happens with tariffs, it’s possible that there could be an adjustment.
President Shuntaro Furukawa was speaking about the situation during a briefing following the release of the company’s financial results today. He indicated that Nintendo will “consider” price adjustments assuming “tariffs changes significantly”.
Furukawa’s full words:
“Our basic policy is to recognize tariffs as a cost when determining the selling price in any country or region and to factor them into the price. If the assumption of tariffs changes significantly, we will consider and implement any price adjustments after taking multiple aspects into account.”
Furukawa also said that additional tariffs and higher prices could impact demand for Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States. Consumers may have less money to spend on gaming and could focus their budget on daily necessities and food.
While the situation may seem like doom and gloom in some ways, Nintendo is far from a poor position. Based on the company’s forecast issued today, Switch 2 could sell 15 million units in its first year, which would beat out its predecessor which was extremely successful.
