Patent suggest Nintendo Switch 2 could have integrated voice chat

Fans are pouring over any detail they can find about Nintendo Switch 2 as we approach the system’s proper unveiling in just a few short weeks, and now a patent has been found that points to the system possibly featuring integrated voice chat.

As you may know, there isn’t really a solution like that on the current Nintendo Switch. If you’re interested in using voice chat with supported games, you essentially need to go through the Switch Online mobile app. With Nintendo Switch 2, however, things might be different.

Nintendo filed the patent in the United States in November and it was officially published less than a month ago. In it, the document goes over implementing proximity chat in games. This would point to OS voice chat integration and the use of proximity chat in first-party games.

We’re still waiting to find out when Nintendo Switch 2 will be launching – outside of the vague 2025 window – but we could be getting an answer during the Nintendo Direct on April 2.
