Resident Evil Requiem dev surprised how smooth Nintendo Switch 2 porting process was

One of the standout games from the latest Nintendo Direct, Resident Evil Requiem has been receiving widespread praise on social media after its handheld gameplay on the Nintendo Switch 2 was showcased (you can check out the full details here). Following the announcement of the game for the new console, the developers shared insights on bringing Requiem to the system, saying the studio was impressed with the hardware and that it “just made sense.”

In an interview with VGC, producer Masato Kumazawa spoke about bringing the game to other platforms on day one and praised Nintendo’s new hardware:

“Although we have released ports of the games to Nintendo platforms over the years, as you said, this is a bit more all-in on being day one on Switch 2, and that’s simply because when we got the Switch 2 hardware, we were surprised in a good way about how smooth the process was for us to bring the existing development version of the game to that platform”

Capcom developer Koshi Nakanishi noted that Requiem was being developed in a “highly scalable way,” meaning that even though Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t as powerful as other systems, it could still run the game. “It wasn’t particularly difficult for console platforms or high-end PCs with path tracing and similar features, so adding the Switch 2 into the mix was just a matter of scaling rather than a massive challenge,” Nakanishi explained.

Resident Evil Requiem launches on Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on February 27, with pre-orders now live on the eShop.
