The Big Huge Gigantic NintendoEverything Wii Send-Off [Part 1]

10. Metroid: Other M

Alas, the community certainly seems torn on this game! It both makes our “biggest disappointment” list (which will be coming tomorrow) AND our “most underappreciated” list, but today we talk about why it was under-appreciated. Other M fans (such as, to an extent, Jack from the podcast crew) say that the game may not be very “Metroid-y”, but judged as a standalone game it’s awfully good. A few people even go as far as to say it’s really not a bad Metroid game either! I can’t judge it myself as I’ve never beaten it, but I’m inclined to agree– I’ve not experienced anything terrible about it yet!

9. No More Heroes (series)

Whenever people tell me that the Wii has no good third party games, I always point them to the No More Heroes series first. Following the wonderfully M-rated escapades of Suda51’s “Travis Touchdown”, No More Heroes (particularly the sequel) does a wonderful job of not only giving a player plenty of fun things to do, but also subtly criticizing the game industry itself to the point where the game could be considered a piece of satire on a very grand scale. If you’ve not played, check it out as soon as possible!

8. Monster Hunter Tri

I guess being the highest-selling Monster Hunter game in the west just really isn’t enough for you guys to admit something is “appreciated”, eh? I kid of course– Monster Hunter 3 is really one of those games that people love to hate before they play it because of “clunky controls” and a constant “grind”. Those things are true– I once went so far as to call the game the “greatest bad game” of all time— but there’s so much more to the depth of the game than what is immediately visible on the surface. I personally sank 70 hours into the game and only made it to level 12 of 100– and I didn’t get bored once.

7. Muramasa: The Demon Blade

Not only is Muramasa one of the best looking games on Nintendo’s little white console, it’s also one of the most fun. Featuring two stories– each with their own share of boss battles and Metroid-like exploration– and countless beautiful landscapes to behold, the fact that this sold but 300K in North America is a shame! At least PSVita owners will soon be able to experience its beauty, as a port of the game (including additional content!) will be coming out in March of next year.
