[Wii Send-Off] The Top Ten Third-Party Wii Games

Posted on November 9, 2012 by (@NE_Austin) in Features, Wii

6. Madworld

Making its second NintendoEverything list debut at number six is Platinum Games’ Madworld, the absurdly stylized and immaturely hilarious brawler released back in 2009. Even though the campaign mode was a weak 4 hours long at best, the wonderful commentary from Greg Proops and John DiMaggio, the deadly creativity, and the intriguing art style served to draw in gamers and keep them there.

Not for very long, but hey, it kept them there.

5. Sonic Colors

The Sonic series, according to many gamers, hasn’t been “good” in a long, long time. Ever since it shifted from 2D to 3D, former fans have turned against the blue hedgehog after he repeatedly disappoints them with poorly paced, gimmicky, truly awful games. That all changed (sort of) when the Wii exclusive Sonic Colors came out in late 2010. Ditching the goofy side-characters, weird alternate modes (see: “Werehog”), and utterly terrible (but great) music, the game didn’t do too much to reignite passion for the classic character, but it sure served to get people to shut up about how “bad” Sonic is. At least for a month or two.

4. Okami

Yet another prior-gen port from Capcom, Okami came out fairly early in the Wii’s lifespan in an attempt to garner more public interest in the game, after it received critical acclaim but commercial floppage on PS2. It was somewhat of a success, utilizing a much smoother control scheme courtesy of the Wiimote– and probably helped pave the way for the DS prequel Okamiden— but whether it deserves a spot on this list… I’m not sure! You guys picked it!

Onwards to #3…
