Comparison shows Nintendo has improved Super Mario Odyssey’s visuals

Posted on September 13, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

Since the last time we’ve seen Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo has further touched up the game’s visuals. One scene was shown for a second time today, allowing us to see how things have changed over the past few months. Aside from the improvements to the actual visuals, Peach’s crown now has the Cappy-looking character instead.

Here’s the comparison:

  • But wow they did enhance it well. It looks visually better.

    • Ochaco Uraraka

Agreed! any visual improvements is a plus.

  • Martin Naranjo

    Why would that be necessary?

  • KnightWonder

I believe during E3 or Gamescon they said it would be 1080p 60fps.

    • MrCafecito

Nope, it was proven to be 720p, they just confirmed 60fps but not 1080

      • KnightWonder

        When was this?

  • WTFISTHISSHIT?

    I like the visual improvement.

  • Martin Naranjo

There is something that seems quite strange to me

The tiara on Peach’s Head has eyes and seems to be a counterpart to Mario’s new guy… what’s up with that? Was it because of spoilers or a last-minute change to the game’s characters? Those changes seldom go well within the game’s design made in the elaboration stage

    • MrCafecito

I think they just didn’t want to spoil that character in the january reveal

    • KnightWonder

Spoilers. It’s common for developers to hide stuff like this until they’re ready to reveal it.

It’s cappy’s sister, your trying to rescue her

  • Leonel

I really wonder if this was definitely the plot all along or maybe their was some other plot but nonetheless I’m hype for the game I could easily see myself spend a ton of hours playing this

  • Exy

I was wondering why I never noticed Peach’s crown was alive before. It actually wasn’t.

  • Jack Red

It wasn’t just a texture improvement on Peach. The E3 model looks to just be her Super Mario 3D World model with slightly better textures to be used as a placeholder until they officially showed off Tiara. Peach’s model for Odyssey is a completely brand new one.

yeah as characters look far more detailed in Odyssey, she like Mario has a lot of detail to her outfit and her hair, making it look less plastic-y

  • Paddy Alfan

It took nintendo half a year to improves a game graphic and adding shadow, textures and whatnot compared to 10 years for ff xv to change female MC haircolor.

  • Gamingfan

$550 for the mario odyssey bundle in australia. if you want a pro controller then its $650. I dont know what you’re smoking nintendo but give me some.

  • Tlink7

    Such a pretty game <3

  • Tlink7

I personally prefer fancier textures over a higher resolution. I never even noticed MK8 was 720p on the Wii U

    • Stickz

MK8 looks gorgeous (even on Wii U). Blows many ps4/xb1 games away

  • Tjnswitch

they release what they want when they want…doesn’t mean anything was ever improved or those latter shots/game play images weren’t there to begin with

  • PachterStation

Canned for the Wii U, Nintendo probably showed off an early version running on the Switch then topped up the graphics. Hardly an improvement. Same case with Zelda. A Wii U port, there was always going to be a slight jump graphically.

    • PikaPlayzHD

are you an idiot? this was never planned for the Wii U, this game started development in 2015 when development on NX (Switch) was underway, this game was always planned to be a Switch Exclusive, and yes, this is a massive improvement, Nintendo just doesn’t focus on graphics first, they always wait until the game is finished to make the graphics look even better than they did before

i hope you’re trolling because i cannot believe anyone is this stupid

    • Stuart

Miyamoto and Iwata said, way back on the NX era, that they were making a new Mario for the new console and that they expected that it would launch the first months of the console. This was never a Wii U game. Even early footage was way above what Wii U could do graphically.

      Shut up, Meg.
