Konami community manager says Wii U install base is too small for PES 2014, down on Nintendo’s third-party relations, more
Update: One note on the Fox Engine – Bhatti says he doesn’t know if it’s compatible with Wii U or not.
PES European community manager Adam Bhatti has been tweeting up a storm as fans continue to inquire about Konami’s decision in not bringing this year’s soccer game to Wii U.
In one tweet, Bhatti said that there is “no demand for it”, though he went on to clarify that the Wii U’s install base is “tiny”. As a result, it “doesn’t make sense” to bring PES 2014 to the console.
Bhatti went on to say that Nintendo doesn’t “have any relationship with 3rd parties really. Our games never do well.” Other tweets tackle the fact that previous games on Wii have had difficulty selling one million copies, a hint that Fox Engine isn’t running on Wii U, and… well, the entire lineup of tweets just aren’t favorable to Nintendo.
You can get a look at some of Bhatti’s comments below:
@juanbury no, we didn’t announce it so it won’t be coming.

@juanbury no demand for it.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@juanbury that’s why no FIFA too.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@kelanflyter @juanbury it was the same version, not bad. You have to admit the Wii U is not going through a good time.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@kelanflyter @juanbury OK. I understand now, sorry. But still, you must admit the Wii U isn’t appealing for 3rd party.

@mathieuwarnier sorry you’re upset, but I think it’s not fair to blame us. So many have left those platforms, we are in the majority.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@trabajo31286696 @juanbury obviously you’re overestimating how many would buy it. The Wii U install base is tiny. Just doesn’t make sense,
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@kimjongfootball @kelanflyter @juanbury install base. From the very low amount of Wii U consoles out there, we feel it won’t benefit us.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@mathieuwarnier very few others? You mean everyone. It’s not up to us, we can’t take risks.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@frittenfett I never said there wasn’t demand. I said the install base is too small in general for us. Makes no business sense.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@letsplaywiiu everyone who made games over the launch period feel stung. Others stung during the time Wii dominated but 3rd party suffered.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@exile20 @letsplaywiiu I think Nintendo haven’t worked closely with 3rd parties with WiiU. Like I said I think many suffered during Wii days
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@exile20 @letsplaywiiu I think it’s just confidence in their own titles, but forgetting how important 3rd party support can be?
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@sundin0013 not just sports games, but in general they only exist with 3rd party support, so work with them from the start. Nintendo don’t.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@sundin0013 oh. I mean being brought in through development, asked about issues and concerns from Wii days, what we think Wii U should be etc
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@sundin0013 they don’t have any relationship with 3rd parties really. Our games never do well. Only loyal partner is Ubisoft IMO
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@_smow_ @frittenfett the install base problem is lack of demand for the console right now, not lack of demand it’s owners have for games.
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@elissonandrade @sundin0013 never sold well. It’s that simple. Someone told me its because it was a poor version. Either way, didn’t do well
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@sundin0013 we never sold a million Wii version with the huge install base, you think we’d sell 1mil Wii U versions?!
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@sundin0013 that’s not how it works. It’s not that simple. If it was, why are more 3rd parties porting games to Wii U? Should I stop now?
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@r0mpemand0s that’s a first party problem first, 3rd parties don’t create a problem
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@sundin0013 man hours? Time on tablet? To name a few. Fox Engine on Wii U? Etc
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@craigtbrodie no, install base too small to make that profit
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@ag_systems @emi1yrogers @sundin0013 this first few versions didn’t rock the boat either. You know most 3rd parties suffered on Wii?
— Adam Bhatti (@Adam_Bhatti) June 4, 2013
@roohdini @ag_systems @emi1yrogers @sundin0013 my creative drive? I’m a community manager, not game designer. But we’d lose money.
