Miyamoto comments on Wii HD rumors

Posted on November 9, 2008 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Wii

A Wii HD has been rumored for quite some time, but speculation recently increased when analyst Michael Pachter said that he is “absolutely convinced” that a Wii HD system was on the way and after John Davison seemed positive that it would launch in 2011. Shigeru Miyamoto was recently interviewed by 3sat, and of course, one of the topics which was discussed are the Wii HD rumors.

Miyamoto explained, “…I’m afraid we cannot confirm what we are doing today. But the fact of the matter is that technology is evolving all the time and in Japan, for example…All the analog broadcast will be stopped and shifted into the digital broadcasting. So many things are taking place and we are working in terms of the changes of the technologies all the time.”

regardless if its true or not, why the hell would it take till 2011 to release one?! even 2010 would be ridiculous. i dont understand why nintendo is fighting this. the fans demand it and they know its necessary. it just doesnt make sense.

2011 actually seems like a appropriate year to expect something along the line of a HD console from Nintendo. Considering the fact that the wii is still going strong with great sales to the point of being in high demand.

Nintendo probably see this as a reason to hang back a bit and keep the cash flow coming. So allthough it seemed like a strange move at first to release a high-end last-gen machine like the wii for this generation shift.
I guess they actually made sure that once they release their own next-gen system, the technology will have been thoroughly tested and cheaper to produce.

I don’t really understand the term Wii HD. Would it mean a release of the current Wii just with the support of a better resolution ?
Or would it be a completely new console with games that cannot be played on the original Wii ?
If it’s the first one i don’t really need it.
