More Nintendo Switch Online service tidbits – Classic Game Selection and Virtual Console are different

Famitsu sent some questions Nintendo’s way in hopes of obtaining more details about the Nintendo Switch Online service. The big N was quiet regarding some topics, but shared a little bit of extra information in some areas.

Famitsu first asks if it’s correct that Classic Game Selection titles will contain local cooperative or versus play exactly the same as they were before except for added online play. In response, Nintendo says that details regarding online play will be announced later.

When asked if the Classic Game Selection and Virtual Console are two different things, Nintendo noted that this is indeed the case. A title from the Classic Game Selection is software that adds a new feature(s) to classic games. Virtual Console for Switch is not yet decided.

Switch owners will subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online for each account, not as a console. The service is charged per each Nintendo Account. Nintendo asks to wait for future details if you tie various Nintendo Accounts to a single Switch.

You’ll subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online service through the eShop. When it goes live, you’ll be able to join by using your balance on the eShop, with a credit card or a prepaid number. Nintendo will also sell download cards in Japan.

By the way, Famitsu did ask about other potential services such as cloud saving. But as you would expect, Nintendo didn’t have anything to say at this time.
