New PETA “campaign” focuses on Pokemon
PETA, the organization otherwise known as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has its latest efforts focusing on Pokemon.
A message on PETA’s website reads:
“The amount of time that Pokemon spend stuffed in pokeballs is akin to how elephants are chained up in train carts, waiting to be let out to ‘perform’ in circuses. But the difference between real life and this fictional world full of organized animal fighting is that Pokemon games paint rosy pictures of things that are actually horrible.”
And here’s one more:
“If PETA existed in Unova, our motto would be: Pokemon are not ours to use or abuse, they exist for their own reasons. We believe that this is the message that should be sent to children.”
As it usually does for game-related content, PETA has posted a playable Flash title to its website. It’s more of a parody of Pokemon Black/White 2 than anything else, and you can play it after the break:
The last time something like this happened, PETA said that its game was intended to be “tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue”. Something tells me that the situation is similar this time around.
