Nintendo confirms amiibo support for Switch, says Dock is for TV output and charging
In today’s Nintendo Switch trailer, amiibo figures were spotted during one of the scenes. Surely that means the new system will have support for the functionality, right? Well, that’s absolutely correct.
A Nintendo representative told IGN the following when asked about amiibo support:
“If a Nintendo Switch game supports amiibo then the Nintendo Switch home gaming system will as well.”
Next, Nintendo had this to say about the Nintendo Switch Dock:
“The Nintendo Switch Dock has been created so that it is extremely easy to seamlessly switch from playing games on a TV to transition into a portable mode. The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system.”
Nintendo added that the Joy-Con controllers (Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R) will be included alongside the Nintendo Switch system.
As for touchscreen support that’s something, Nintendo isn’t willing to confirm or deny either way. The company told IGN:
“We will make additional announcements about the Nintendo Switch hardware later, before the launch of the product.”
