A few hundred Nintendo Network IDs were recently thought to have been affected by some sort of hack. Squish Turtle obtained a statement from Nintendo, which states that “login information was taken from a third-party website”. This data was compromised, and unfortunately some users had the same login information for their Nintendo Network ID.

Affected accounts have now been suspended to avoid any further issues. Users will need to contact Nintendo to have their information updated and account restored.

An official message from Nintendo of Australia reads:

“It has come to our attention that user login information was taken from a third-party website (not affiliated with Nintendo) that was recently compromised, and that some of the affected users also registered the same login information for their Nintendo Network ID.”

“To protect our users, we have suspended all compromised Nintendo Network IDs and linked Nintendo Accounts to prevent any potential unauthorised access. No Nintendo service or server was breached.”

“In total, 30 users were affected in Australia & New Zealand. We have emailed to alert them to the situation, and are asking them to phone Nintendo Customer Service to update their login info and reactivate their accounts.”
