Nintendo: We haven’t ignored the core gamer, no core games in early 2009

Posted on August 26, 2008 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Wii

Nintendo already told us that its fans should not be expecting any big releases for the rest of 2008 and that they have revealed everything for 2008. However, Nintendo hasn’t said much about 2009, leaving hardcore gamers to hope for the future. Well, it looks like the future those fans have been hoping for may be even later than early 2009. In the October issue of Edge, a Nintendo statement explains that the company does not believe they have ignored the core fanbase. Moreover, Nintendo reiterated that its teams are working on hardcore games, although none will be ready for launch in early 2009.

“We have never neglected our core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years. These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams.”

  • what a joke

There’s a reason for the gap in hardcore games from nintendo: they take years to make their games and don’t release them until they are excellent, unlike some other develepors we know.

  • Zach

And to fsfs, if nintendo was all about money, wouldn’t they be putting out as much crap as possible to make a quick buck. They have a reputation to uphold.

  • Fran

Nintendo are full of crap can you imagine the uproar if sony had said don’t expect any games for the rest of 2008 and 2009 isn’t looking great either… Nintendo has the worst record of making quality games 95% of wii games are woeful… To Zach: You are in denial, get over it. Sony are making fantastic games which all take 2 years or more to make but the difference is they have more than just mario zelda and smash bros…. Wii is stuck in the 90s and the motion control is terrible and imprecise I have a wii and nintendo tricked me pretending i would be having great sword fights etc, when it turns out it just detects movements and does a basic combo, no different to hitting square square square.. Nintendo are liars and the wii isn worth what I paid

  • Well you’re a smart one, Fran. If you have such disdain for your Wii, why not sell it and make more money than it’s worth, like innumerable others right now? Quit bitching and go snuggle with your PS3 that won’t be relevant til next gen.

  • Troy

I know a lot of Wii games are pretty bad, but remember that 95% of Wii games aren’t made by Nintendo, so you can’t really blame. Besides, they’ve arleady given us games like SMG, MKWii, MP3:C, SPM, Fire Emblem, and SSBB.

Why do people always have to bash Nintendo? When will people learn to SHUT UP!!! >:(

they ARE making quick bucks by targeting the non core-gamers; and leaving the core-gamers with the hopes outlined in this article!

and realistically, it doesn’t seem logical that it would take so long to make a game for a wii, since it’s essentially gamecube-ish graphics anyways…

PS3 has that core processor thing or whatever, that makes games harder to produce (because of software) and they’re still making great games within 2009; same with xbox.

unless it’s something totally ‘innovative’ some other gimmicky virtual movement type games like wii sports/music/fit, which doesn’t really satisfy the CORE-gamers; it doesn’t seem like they have any real plans and are just buying time.

@ Zach – “And to fsfs, if nintendo was all about money, wouldn’t they be putting out as much crap as possible to make a quick buck. They have a reputation to uphold.”

You mean you really honestly don’t think this is what they been doing? – wake up and smell the coffee fanboy

“And to fsfs, if nintendo was all about money, wouldn’t they be putting out as much crap as possible to make a quick buck. They have a reputation to uphold.”

I think he was being facetious. Everyone knows that’s what they’re doing.

  • You guys are crazy. I consider myself a “core gamer” and I’m totally fine with what Nintendo’s been putting out. It’s nice to have a company that doesn’t produce the same old RPGs, FPSs, and action-adventure garbage that is constantly recycled in this industry. To be honest, I’ve probably played Wii sports more than most “core” games I’ve ever liked. Of course some of Nintendo’s focus is on making money; they’d be extremely foolish not to pursue that avenue. However, there’s no way in hell you can’t say the same about Sony, and especially Microsoft. Grow up, making money is part of being able to produce badass games. Also @jax, you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about. The Wii is fully capable of producing graphics far and above the Gamecube, just look at The Conduit for proof, that game looks stunning. And it DOES take longer to program a game on the Wii unless it’s shovelware. There are different factors that the designers have to deal with that come with the territory of motion-sensing, just look here for proof.

I guess all I’m saying is I feel like in ten years I could still pop in Wii sports and go to town, while I don’t feel I can say that for 95% of my favorite core games.

This issue wouldn’t even have been brought up if people felt they were getting their ‘core’ games; so yes, people are feeling ignored. And how can we not? Just look at E3. Total failure in anything interesting. Wii Music? Snowboarding? Honestly, I’ve been with Nintendo since I was six years old. I grew up on the Zelda titles. So seeing this makes me feel like selling my Wii and boosting my XBox collection. I mean, Microsoft has me waiting for five games within the next year; Nintendo has left me with only distant hopes of an amazing Zelda title.. and that’s about it.

Sorry, Nintendo. But you just can’t satisfy me anymore. I’m breaking up with you.
