Official overview of Miitomo from Nintendo

Posted on October 28, 2015 by (@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News

Nintendo introduced its first mobile app, Miitomo, during a financial results briefing earlier today. For the full overview from today’s presentation, read on below.

The main character of Miitomo is you. First, you create your own Mii.

The Mii asks you a variety of questions and communicates your answers with your Friends’ Mii.

The people you will be able to communicate with are limited to your friends whom you have registered as Friends. We are designing this communication application to enable Friends to share information comfortably and securely.

In this way, instead of the users proactively sending their own messages, Miitomo has a unique characteristic that can be called “friendly communication starters” as your Mii will automatically dispatch the answers you gave to certain questions to your friends.

These “friendly communication starters” have an advantage that even the people who are less willing to send messages can easily participate. Another unique characteristic of Miitomo is that you may be able to find out unknown aspects about your friends or unexpected commonalities you share with your friend because Miitomo may pick up the topics that you usually do not discuss but would be willing to answer if asked.

What we would like to realize is, through such communication, you will be able to deepen friendly relationships and have more people with whom you can play games.

Both My Nintendo and Miitomo will be available in March 2016.

For reference, more than 200 million Mii characters have been created on our platforms, which means that many people around the world understand the appeal of Mii.

Nintendo had a chance to make an impression, and blew it.

Nintendo is just embarrassing itself. The Pokemon Company brings out Pokemon GO and Nintendo brings out a stupid messaging service?!

    • Zuxs13

How did they blow it? They stated from the beginning that they were not bringing their traditional games to mobile. This is exactly the kind of thing people should have expected, it appeals to the mobile crowd.

Lets remain optimistic. After all, messaging is the core of the entire smart device experience, and this will likely be the core of the Nintendo smart device experience. With a solid userbase and accounts set up, the way will be clear for implementation in actual games. Like how people were making Miis on the Wii’s Mii Channel before many actual games that used them came out: its simply a bridge.

  • This is brilliant. Can’t wait to see how the interactions differ from other messenger platforms. Snapchat/instagram/facebook/texting etc… is all about social interaction. I’m very excited to see how Nintendo does with this.

    • Hermione Granger

as you said we already have Snapchat/instagram/facebook/texting… so the question is, are you here to play games or only hangout on social medias and waste your time and talk crap. if you are a gamer you dont use your time on social medias, because you play games and games can take up to 10-120 hours to complete depending on what game it is. now if you use your time on social media why are trying to game at all. its clear you have no interest in gaming.

  • Hermione Granger

i already can send messages and talk to my friends on my phone… why the heck have i use for this garbage?. yet again ninty cant understand the difference between real life friends and gamer friends. gamer friends i only play games with and have no interest to share my private life with. there must be some culture differences here these japanese cant understand. since they keep on going again and again with this…

    • Zuxs13

Its not designed for people like you in mind.

      • Hermione Granger

who is it designed for then?… antisocial people that need to hide behind a mii and use a list of words chosen for them by ninty. that is just retarded.

        • Zuxs13

Yup, and there are billions of people like that out there, it’s a smart move. Only thing retarding the situation here is your incorrect use of the word retarded.

I hope we can import our own Mii from the Wii/wiiu/3ds.
