ONM teases new Wii U game for next issue

The Official Nintendo Magazine has teased a new game set to be revealed in its April issue.

A teaser discovered in the current edition reads:

“OOOOOH! New Wii U game! (And no, it isn’t F-Zero or Star Fox).”

An important word of caution: there’s a fairly high chance that the tease is for Sonic Boom. That’s not at all confirmed, but wouldn’t be at all surprising given how it was just announced a few days ago, and ONM likely couldn’t talk about the title before publishing its latest issue.

I swear if this is sonic boom… I’m going to be pissed because it’s cranky kong embarrassment at vgx (not that it was good anyway) all over again! :(

    • WiiLovePeace

Did you even watch VGX? The show itself was an embarrassment & didn’t deserve any more than the Cranky Kong reveal.

      • Brandon

OF COUSE I DID you idiot! & I could have sworn I seen you before on nintendolife jackass! NoA people that was your last chance to wrap up a barren and abysmal 2013 & you were the worst out of all the bad stunts at VGX! >=(

        • WiiLovePeace

What the? Why the childish name calling?

          • Brandon

That’s it! I seen you on nintendo life before as brando67854321 & you were wiilovepeace. :P

          • WiiLovePeace

            So…?

          • Brandon

SO. I’m pretty sure you STILL hate my guts!

          • WiiLovePeace

What? I don’t hate you. I don’t even know you!

          • Brandon
          • WiiLovePeace

Nowhere in my comment do I send you hate, unlike some of the other comments. I quote: “Oh & your comment about how it shouldn’t be released on Wii or 3DS is totally abysmal & makes no sense :S” I disagreed with your comment, not you as a person. How do you even remember this anyway? :O It’s nearly 2 years old!

          • Thomas_NE

Guys, the best way to avoid this drama and hurt feelings is just… stop replying to each other?

          • Brandon

why? :P everyone hates my guts & laughs at me constantly about my ideas!

          • WiiLovePeace

I’d prefer to resolve it in a civilised manner. He clearly holds a grudge against me even now after nearly two years, I don’t want anyone to hold feelings like that inside them. So hopefully we can come to a peaceful resolution :)

          • Brandon

I don’t hold a grudge against you just nicalis (yes I’m american but still) now if you excuse me I’m skipping 90′s arcade racer for project cars! >:P

          • Brandon

looking forward to 90′s arcade racer? I’m me because nicalis loves ruining ports & milking cave story!! Now if you excuse me I’m getting project cars! >=P

          • WiiLovePeace

I also dislike Nicalis for how they treated La-Mulana, cave story etc.. I’m also not going to buy ’90s arcade racer. I don’t think anyone is laughing about you because of your ideas. I agree with you, Nicalis don’t deserve our money.

          • Brandon

you know one thing? the sad thing about 90′s arcade racer is I would have bought it if nicalis was not going to publish it but… since it is I’m skipping it even if it has online play (confirmed on neogaf somewhere), I don’t care!

          • WiiLovePeace

I’m the *exact* same! I was excited for the 90s arcade racer game when I first heard about it on NintendoLife when it was still a kickstarter. The moment I heard it was being published by Nicalis I knew I wouldn’t buy the game ever.

      • Brandon

seriously Jon turner YOU upvoted HIM!?!?!? WOW dude you Jon turner are a idiot!

I watched the supercut. Joel McHale was hilarious.

New Game – Wii U… Sonic boom – 3DS/Wii U. And no, it ins’t F-Zero or Star Fox, probably new game… I hope.

  • Mr.Anderson

    Metroid?

    • Brandon

I hope it runs on a HUGE engine cryengine? (wii u supports cryengine 3 & the new recently announced one) or Unreal engine 4? (rumor about retro convincing epic to use UE4) decisions, decisions….

      • Purple3DSXL

I hope it’s on the newly announced CryEngine, too. A new game we don’t know about would be nice :).

    • Thomas_NE

Number of first party Nintendo titles announced in ONM: … probably 0? That’s just not how Nintendo does it.

  • sonicfan1373

I do not think ONM will reveal a new title themselves, unless it is third party.

If it is a new Nintendo title, then I expect Nintendo to make an announcement first and ONM to go into more detail. If Nintendo does not make an announcement then it is either Sonic Boom, a new big studio third-party game, or a new key indie title.

    • Brandon

It BETTER be a new title. wii u failing & it’s all the 1st parties only peoples fault!

  • D2K

I’m old enough to remember when Nintendo did used to reveal new games in the old Nintendo Power magazine. Of course back then print was a more useful source at providing information. Marketing overall was better back then for Nintendo. They had commercials, movies, TV shows, toys, even a breakfast cereal.

    • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Why do people say ‘breakfast cereal’? It’s not like there’s a ‘lunch cereal.’

  • http://people.ign.com/oskitake Oskitake

We really need a new Nintendo Direct. We need dates for X, Smash, Mario Kart 8 and some footage too about them and other titles in development .

    • D2K

Yeah. It’s been over a year and we still haven’t seen so much as a screen-shot of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. That’s ridiculous. We’ve seen no footage at all of Yoshi’s Yarn. We’ve only seen cut-scenes and what may or may not be in-game footage of X. Not a whole lot of gameplay footage of Smash Bros either.

Nintendo needs to hold their own press event in the near future. They don’t have the luxury of time to wait until E3. Save E3 for any brand-new titles that they have or are about to deploy into development to reveal. It would have a greater-impact IMO if they announce a bunch of core-related games at E3 on stage even if all they have are screen shots, CGI cut-scenes, or real-time trailers. That’ll be good enough to let people know Nintendo means business. Right now however Nintendo needs to show the public in GREAT DETAIL all they have been working on. Even with all the promises made by Iwata, Nintendo is still losing the trust of gamers with the easy-going-to-get-it attitude. It’s time to get moving.

    • Juan Camilo Navarro

Maybe this sounds strange but Nintendo hasn’t announced and shown any Nintendo Direct in order to buy the shares they needed when the stock during the investors’ meeting dropped (remind the news about buying Yamauchi’s family’s shares). They have not announced the ND because that would’ve risen sharply their stock and thus could “ruin” part of the plan on buying shares.

However, with this move completed maybe we could see a ND this month, specially because we need more info about MK8 at least.

      • http://people.ign.com/oskitake Oskitake

Yeah I figured that too but in January , there was a ND for Korea so I expected one for the other side of the world too, besides they could have bought the stock and showed a ND just after it.

  • Torben Harms

When they explicit write that it isn’t F-Zero nor Starfox I would say it’s Metroid. :)

    • Jon Turner

That or MAYBE it could be KIRBY. Either way, consider me intrigued.

      • Brandon

That would be freaking embarrassing if it was kirby because the 2 wii games bombed horribly for 1. being too different (epic yarn) & 2. not well received (return to dreamland). seriously Jturner you suck!

        • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Both games were excellent and sold over a million copies.

          • Brandon

critic reception for epic yarn was good but was hated by many kirby fans yet return to dreamland loved by fans it was smashed by critics in comparison oh and epic yarn sold 1 million copies by the end of 2011. :P

          • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Now you’re just making stuff up. There’s no such thing as a kirby fan.

          • Brandon

            yes there is. :P
