Strictly Limited Games starting to get involved with Switch

Posted on November 14, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

Limited Run Games has made a name for itself by producing physical versions of digital titles. Europe-based Strictly Limited Games may not be as well known, but they’ve also started to get into the same business.

No specific titles have been announced yet, but Strictly Limited Games today confirmed plans for Switch. We’ll let you know when the first releases are confirmed.

Thanks to Tiago S for the tip.

    Not a fan of this.

    • Apfel

      May I ask why?

      • Sinton

Because these «limited» games are really hard to come by. As a collector, I prefer physical copies, and it’s not fun when you can’t get hold of one of the thousand physical copies in existence. (And I hate scalpers.)

        • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

but you prefer that they don;t exist at all?

          • Sinton

            Are you a collector?

I prefer that they are available to those that want to own physical games. If they exist but I can’t get them, they represent a hole in my game collection.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

enjoy what you have and don’t suffer whit the thing you can’t get.
i am a collector but not a compulsive one, i just collect Zelda stuff and yes i feel something like you feel when I could not get something but then i think that i wont bring all that stuff to my grave so I can chill

          • Sinton

Yeah, I’m with you, but still would prefer this to be available to all or only digital.

          • Fredy Rodriguez Ortega

that is the dream, “available to al”, we can dream

        • Apfel

They released one game, and still available.
I have no experience with Limited Run games, but Retro City Rampage preorders were ok. Regular version sold out in 2h, Special Edition 1 day.
You get alerts, not a not deal…that or purely digital…

          • Sinton

I could not order Retro City Rampage where I live.

          • Apfel

they have international shipping, I live in Germany and already received my copy

          • Sinton

My mistake, my memory tricked me. I opted to not order RCR. Can’t remember if it was the price that put me off (it would probably cost med $60 USD or more with shipping and tax).

How does the cover look? Is it American looking (ESRB rating etc.), European looking (PEGI) or neutral?

          • Apfel

            Cover looks ok, very clean.
I get what you say, vblank, limited run etc system could be better. And you are right. I know these are publishers with very limited resources, so the excess of copies do make the difference. However, i think the best approach here is print on demand. Just a big announcement, so any interested person would know, leave preorders open for 1 month, with a big disclaimer saying preorders cannot be cancelled (people will think twice before preorder, but those who really want to get the game will get it) and problem solved.
This way, they get the money upfront, and can print the exact amount of copies. No loss, everyone is happy.
Since digital versions are out there, there are no surprises about the port.
            win-win for all of us.

          • Apfel

Special edition with shipping was $60.99.
Lucky us Strictly Limited Games is German. Norway is not a member of the EU, but I think it signed the EEA agreement, that means no import fees. Am I right? I’d love to know.

          • Sinton

Norway is part of the EEA, but we still have import tax on goods above NOK 350 (about €40). If you got RCR for $60.99, It would cost me around $75.

          • Apfel

that’s a pity. Thanks for the info.

          • Sinton

            No problem.

          • Apfel

Where do you live? if I may ask….

          • Sinton

            Norway.

          • Apfel

            Yo Sinton, still here?

          • Sinton

            I am now 🙂

          • Apfel

And like you, and all of us, I hate scalpers. I’m on my personal crusade here, and I keep my eyes open for preorders all the time, and let people know as soon as preorders go live.

  • kurodo

    Great!

  • Pepperkeet

First sort out this so called “switch tax” then talk to me about physical copies…
if these guys are going to jack up prices from digital just to sell me a tiny cartridge they can keep it.

    • Apfel

Not really in the mood of an endless virtual fight here, but I’m pretty sure you already figured out carts are expensive. 2k, capcom, sega, badland games, greybox and many developers and publishers are charging 10 extra bucks for physical copies for Switch.

Possibly, because they all had a secret meeting at microsoft HQ where they all planned to sell less copies for Switch because they have an evil hater plan against nintendo…
      or…
      carts are expensive. Too expensive.

Publishers might be evil, but they’re not stoopid (avoiding being flagged). They want to sell games. We agreed on that part at least?

Retro city rampage is 14,99 eur in the e-shop, sold at 29 usd by vblank.
You’re asking a tiny tiny publisher, that published one game to absorb that cost? Costs that not even 2k is willing to absorb? I might understand demanding this to 2k, but stricktly limited??
this is what will happen. They will sell a 14 euro digital game at 29 euros. There’s no evil plan…it’s a business.
And you have the option not to buy it.
      They will sell it anyways.

      • Pepperkeet

Consumers dgaf about any of that, they want parity across prices. PERIOD

        • Apfel

well, you don’t always get what you want, part of growing up.

          • Pepperkeet

You sounding foolish right now, I know that you’re trying to save face but just stop.

          • Apfel

The only reason I care about what you’re saying, it’s because you’re fueling animosity against developers, whom by all means are not all saints, but some are really trying to bring games to our preferred platform. And people who read your childish nonsenses might get the wrong idea.
I’m not saying I hold the truth, but at least I bring arguments to the table. And on the other side, we have here a person barking to the wrong tree. I mean, what can we expect from a person whose argumentative depth goes as deep as “It’s not fair…”. I hope you’re 12, cause you sure sound like one.

  • Dylan W

Damn, I might need a strictly limited budget.
