2D Boy talks World of Goo sales, development costs
World of Goo has been one of the standout WiiWare titles. Not only is it a fantastic game, but it has also topped the weekly charts on Nintendo’s downloadable service for weeks. At GDC today, co-creator of World of Goo Rob Carmel (2D Boy) chatted about the costs and profits of the game’s development.
In two years, $96,000 was spent in addition to the costs of investments – $1,000 on software, $4,000 on hardware, $5,000 for localization, $5,000 for legal fees, and another $5,000 on QA testing. As far as sales of World of Goo goes, in 2008, 60% of all sales can be attributed to WiiWare, 25% came from the website, and 3% resulted from retail.
