Nintendo reveals Australia DSi launch sales numbers
Australia, 20 April, 2009 – Nintendo Australia announces that Nintendo DSi™ – an upgrade to the Nintendo DS Lite® hand held console has currently sold through more than 30,000* units in Australia, as at 12 April – according to independent market research group GfK Australia.
Nintendo DSi’s predecessor, Nintendo DS Lite launched in Australia in 2006, and along with the original Nintendo DS® which launched in 2005, has gone on to sell through more than 1.9million units in Australia and 100million units globally. Since 2006, Nintendo DS Lite has been Australia’s number one selling console.
Available in stores since Thursday 2 April, Nintendo DSi launched with a special late night opening in the EB Games Swanston Street Nintendo Experience store in Melbourne, Victoria. Customers were able to be the first in Australia to get their hands on the Nintendo DSi, which has something for everyone.
New features include Nintendo DSi Camera – two cameras, 11 different lenses, Nintendo DSi Sound – store, play and manipulate music, SD memory card slot – for additional storage space, and the ability to play your favourite music on your Nintendo DSi. As well as a slimmer unit, increased sound quality, bigger LCD screens and the Nintendo DSi Shop.
Free to download, the Nintendo DSi Browser puts your Nintendo DSi online. Once online, you can visit the Nintendo DSi Shop and shop online for Nintendo DSiWare. The first time you visit the Nintendo DSi Shop, you will automatically receive 1,000 free Nintendo Points (available for a limited time only) which will allow you to download your choice of Nintendo DSiWare.
