Wii storage solution – No direct play off SD cards?
Nintendo discussed methods they are most likely going to peruse in order to solve memory issues on the Wii at their fall press conferences this past week. As things stand as of now, the primary approach that will most likely be implemented when the update launches in spring will be “to make it so that Wii software can be purchased by directly downloading it onto an SD memory card” and/or “to make it so that software stored on SD memory card can be played on Wii console by going through much simpler procedures.” These points were both presented at the press conferences this week, but the explanation is nebulous and there has been no mention of playing games directly off the SD card.
So, when the update finally is made public in a few months, we’ll be able to download content to the SD card and then, through easier processes, play the games on Wii. Still, the question remains over whether or not, in the end, games will be able to run right off an SD card. While this could mean that you may not be able to enjoy content as most are expecting, Nintendo seems willing to make the current storage solution somewhat easier for those who are finding issues with storage.
