Cambridge, Mass. – Sept. 17, 2010 – Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that the epic Bob Marley and The Wailers album, Legend, will be added next week to the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and WiiTM.

“My father was interested in bringing reggae music to the entire world,” said Ziggy Marley, “and now that his music is coming to Rock Band, as the first reggae artist in the game, we are excited to open the doors to reggae music to a whole new group of young people.”

“We are thrilled to have ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ in Rock Band 3 and to offer the other incredible tracks from Bob Marley’s Legend album for download on the Rock Band platform,” said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Networks. “We can’t think of a better way for Rock Band to help a new generation of fans discover reggae than through his important, pioneering and infectious music.”

Rock Band DLC additions for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii
It’s already been announced that Bob Marley and The Wailers’ classic “Get Up, Stand Up” will be featured on the Rock Band 3 soundtrack, but next week, fans can get an early taste of Marley with an album of his masterpieces, when we bring Legend to the Rock Band Music Store.

Legend, originally released in 1984, is the best selling reggae album of all time, selling 25 million albums in the United States alone and an additional 2.8 million in the United Kingdom. It features 14 of Bob Marley and The Wailers’ classic songs and was rereleased as a CD in 1990 – the version available for Rock Band download next week, featuring original album versions.

The album has been the recipient of many awards. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it as No. 46 on the magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and at 1,000 weeks, it holds the honor of being the second longest-charting album in Billboard history.

With 100 percent of the proceeds from the evening going to support the One Love “Not-For-Profit” Foundation, 2,800 fans will fill the Benedum Theatre (formerly The Stanley Theatre, the site of Marley’s last performance), in Pittsburgh, for a journey back in time. In addition to Stephen, Damian and Julian Marley, special guests will perform at various points during the evening. Rita Marley, “The Queen Mother” herself, will be traveling all the way from her home in Ghana, as well as Marcia Griffith (I Threes), who will also be performing.
