Sky: Children of the Light

Sky: Children of the Light was originally on track to launch sometime this summer. Unfortunately, that will no longer be happening. Developer thatgamecompany announced a delay and has confirmed that it’s been pushed back to 2021.

In a blog post, the studio pointed to the coronavirus as having an impact on development. The good news is that the Switch version is “in the final stretch” and more staff are being hired for the console release.

The full statement from thatgamecompany reads:

During our first year anniversary of Sky’s release last month, we’ve received so much love and inquiries into the status of our development of Sky for Nintendo Switch. We’ve been excited to finally bring this game to console as much as you have!

Since March, our studio has taken safe measures to ensure all of our team members stay healthy – emotionally, physically, and free from COVID. Over the past five months, our staff has worked non-stop from home and have tried to be there for their loved ones during this difficult time as well. Through the pandemic, we’ve done our best to release Sky on Android, manage a live game, and launch two new adventure seasons too.

As a small indie studio working remotely, it has been incredibly challenging to pull off so many releases back to back from home.

The good news is that we’re close to being in the final stretch to deliver Sky to Nintendo Switch players. Unfortunately, the bad news is that due to the remote slowdown of work during COVID and our utmost priority to protect our team’s health, we’ve had to push back Sky’s release on Nintendo Switch by a few months into 2021. In the meantime, we have also decided to hire more staff to help us with this console release as well.

We apologize if we’ve disappointed any fans, as we work remotely to release Sky for Nintendo Switch a few months later than expected.

We wish that you and your loved ones continue to stay safe. Thanks for being the most supportive and compassionate fans around – we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you! We will look to share another update soon.
