Nintendo Account adds features for automatic credit card updates and friends activity / recommendations
Earlier today, certain Nintendo Account holders were notified by email regarding privacy policy updates. We haven’t seen anything in North America as of yet, though there are reports of the message going out to those in Europe.
The privacy policy changes are primarily related to a couple of new features. First, automatic updates of certain details such as the use of a credit card are now supported. Additionally, “Nintendo can inform your friends of games you have played, and vice versa” in the form of play activity and recommendations.
Here’s the full rundown:
The Account Updater feature, which can automatically update the credit card information stored on Nintendo eShop for your convenience. For example, if your credit card has expired or its number has changed, the new information can be provided at the time of purchase by the bank that issues your credit card. Please understand that some banks do not support automatic updates yet, and that the usage of this service depends on the agreement you have with your bank.
Play activity and recommendations shared among your group of friends. Nintendo can inform your friends of games you have played, and vice versa. You can control the sharing and use of play data through your Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Account settings.
Aside from the features above, Nintendo says it is “planning to enhance the security of the sign-in process, and one element of this is the further integration of Google reCAPTCHA.” Going forward, there should be more of a barrier for unauthorized login attempts.
