Kirby and the Forgotten Land frame rate resolution

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is almost here, and Digital Foundry has now taken a closer look at the game from a technical perspective, including frame rate and resolution.

Below is a roundup of notable tidbits shared by the outlet:

– Dynamic resolution scaling used
– Resolution can scale up to 1080p when docked
– Lower bound is 810p or so
– Kirby and the Forgotten Land max resolution is 720p in portable mode
– Tends to hit the max resolution more often in portable mode
– Heavy use of distant depth of field used, which helps distant aliasing and shimmering
– Each stage makes full use of shadow maps so both dynamic and static objects cast shadows
– More geometric and texture detail compared to something like Super Mario 3D World
– Big enemies can cast dynamic shadows across the entire playfield
– Game seems to use a form of baked indirect lighting to create the impression of bounce lighting
– Animation rate determined by distance to the camera
– Nearby objects update at full rate, but as they move away from the camera, the rate of animation goes down
– Kirby and the Forgotten Land frame rate is capped at 30 FPS
– Major dips in pre-release media have been cleaned up
– Dips can occur, but is relatively uncommon
– Input latency kept low to keep things responsive
– Surround sound audio playback supported
